The Start
Following the Club's successes in the Surrey relays, all the teams
had high hopes for the South of England road relays. Sadly for the
Senior Men, these hopes failed to materialise on the day as three of
the six Surrey Gold medallists were missing for various reasons. Jason
Simpson was otherwise occupied as he became the proud father that
day. Womens Team Captain, Pippa comments: "We were a marvellous 10th!! 'A' team (Me, Ruth, Christine, Alison M) all ran brilliantly in wet, windy, muddy conditions (in places felt more like a cross country race!). Kathy Southall ran a lonely leg for the 'B' team. Paula Radcliffe ran - was a bit humbling watching someone of that calibre running - she looked like she was on a motorbike when she came around the corner back up to the finish, she ran 2nd leg, and gave her team such a huge lead, plus I gather she a course record (by about a minute!!!). Think our position was one better than last year, and John was convinced we may have been first Surrey Team." Robbie in fine form |
