Following South London Harriers successes in the Surrey relays they had high hopes for the South of England road relays at Aldershot. These hopes were justified when SLH came a superb 10th position in the 6 man Senior race, comfortably achieving  their aim of qualifying for the National 6 stage relay. Robbie James finished well placed on the first 4 mile leg (18.45), and after good legs by Paul McTigue (19.10) and Gary Staines (18.15) SLH were in fourth place.  Despite their best efforts, Lee Morgan (20.36) and Martin Wood (20.47) could not avoid dropping down to 12th, but Captain Stuart Major gained two places on the last leg (18.40) to finish 10th.

The over 40 four man team finished just outside the medals in 5th place. Dave Odgen showed the benefit of his increased training for the Dublin marathon by running a fine first leg (20.22) to finish 10th. Eric Thomas moved up to 9th (20.12), a position held by Doug Filtness (20.43). On the last leg Barry Attwell moved up to 5th (20.19), but ran out of road before he could catch the 3rd and 4th teams only 36 seconds ahead. SLH were the first over 40 'B' team, with a very good run by Glen Quarton (20.36).

SLHs best team on the day were the over 50s, who won the South of England bronze medals. Paul Williams ( the European over 50 10,000m silver medallist) had a rare off day but still managed to finish 3rd on the first leg (20.47). John Quaintance (21.42) and Dave Kent (22.10) ran well to keep third place; on the last leg, Francis Upcott was quickly overtaken by the Brighton  runner, but managed to catch the Invicta runner to bring the team home in third place.
