Now if you know the Borrowdale valley, you know it's a very beautiful place and a tad rough under foot. The race takes you round one side of Derwentwater, then down to Grange, around Castle Crag and down to Roshwaite, then up and over Watendlath, then follow the stream in Watendlath valley to Ashness and Ashness bridge, pass Falcon Crags and down into Great wood, then on to Crow park at the end of Derwentwater, to the finish.

It's a great route, yes it gets quite technical under foot, and being the lakes it has its fair share of ups and downs. But I can't recommend this race enough, if you like off road running (but not into mountains) then you can't get much better than this. It also has three categories, 13k, 21k and new to this year the Scafell trail marathon (which me and Tim are doing next year, and does involve mountains).

Now after what happened to us at the start of the Fairfield fell race, we thought it best to manoeuvre ourselves to the front for this one, as this one also had a bottle neck at the start.
We shot off fast at the start, trying to stay ahead of the main mass of runners, and make the most of the reasonably flatish few miles around the lake, before the nasty ups and downs, or rocky technical bits, (or in some cases all three things together) came along. While a lot of runners also went off fast at the beginning, the relatively flat first four miles may have mislead those unfamiliar with the course, as it quickly became much more extreme and technical. Which was good news for us, as we were very familiar with the course!

Subject: Ribble and sizing - by: Natalie Glover & Ross Gentry http://www.southlondonharriers.org/forum/7-general--news/3957-ribble-and-sizing.html#3957 http://www.southlondonharriers.org/forum/7-general--news/3957-ribble-and-sizing.html#3957
Nat has confused me by saying the Ribble online 'bike builder' results in a box of bits being delivered at your door and a lot of head scratching. My understanding was they built the bike you 'built' online and delivered it to you complete. It's not clear from the website at all.

Also, is there anyone out there that can help me with sizing? Short of going into Evans or GB and getting them to measure me I don't really know where to start other than my inside leg and basic frame size.

Thanks

Subject: Captain Berk! Help needed!!! - by: Gary Laybourne http://www.southlondonharriers.org/forum/12-triathlon/3955-captain-berk-help-needed.html#3955 http://www.southlondonharriers.org/forum/12-triathlon/3955-captain-berk-help-needed.html#3955
The gods of Tri do not seem to be shining brightly on your club captain for this race due to....
1) reoccurrence of the Achilles injury thanks to an interval run gone bad!
2) jet lag from the USA has put my body clock all over the place plus poorly baby equals minimal sleep
3) and the reason I may need help, a puncture yesterday and a puncture this morning means I am out of 80cm valve inner tubes! Very strange as havent suffered one in ages an always check my air pressure. Anyway, I went to repair and typically only have 2 patches left but multiple holes in both tubes so don't know whether there is an issue with my deep rims (checked but can't feel anything) or whether they are dodgy tubes (possible but they are decent Continentals)

So, in short, I'm heading into town now to hopefully get some from an Evans or the like. If not, I wondered if anyone would be kind enough to lend me their aero wheels after they have raced tomorrow? I'm racing at 11.48 so should be after most people. I could also come early to change the tube if anyone has an 80cm valve inner tube they could sell to me should I be unlikely today.

I'm hoping I may not have to bother anyone but thought I would ask earlier rather than later just in case my search for tubes in town proves fruitless!! Failing that I'm on the heavy mule wheels!!!

Regardless, best of luck to all tomorrow-GO SLH!!!

Probably complete about 40 miles in total by the time we get out there and back. We'll have a stop in Peaslake and poke fun at the mountain bikers then head back. Meet at either the club or Reigate (depending on what's easiest). Confirmed date and timings to follow once I've got permission to be allowed out to play]]>
