Watford Open T&F Meeting
On Wed 16th July a group of juniors went to the Watford Open, in order to improve their 800m PBs. Tom Holden ran in the BMC Gold Standard race, clocking 1:53.7 - a 3s pb. After a brief recovery he then paced his sister, Georgia, to a new pb of 2:30.
Demonstrating the depth of field at Watford Opens, Joe Lyne ran in 800m race no. 21 (of 24) at 21:40. After a bumpy and crowded start, off the curve rather than stagger, he ran a 60s first lap and pulled out all the stops over the last 59s lap, to finish with a 2s pb, breaking the significant 2 minute barrier to end up with 1:59.2. Earlier in the week Joe's brother James had broken his school 800m record clocking 2:10 at Croydon Arena.
Having raced in several other National Championships or BMC Grand Prix in Manchester, Birmingham and Bedford this season has meant that Tom has been unable to compete in the Mens or SLAN U20 leagues this year, but he has been flying the flag for SLH all the same, despite the concerns of some.
