July 29th, 2007: Alison Collins - Silver Medal at British Track Championships

Posted by Chris Phelan at 7:52 pm

This weekend saw the British Masters (vets) Track and Field Champs at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.  Alison Collins of South London Harriers finished a disappointing 5th in the W40 400m, her preferred event, on Saturday afternoon.    Being so disappointed did help her to focus fully on the 800m the following day….

She set off with great determination leading the field by the break at 100m, soon other runners came through and with 200m to go Alison found herself in 4th place, but this only served to inspire her to a superb sprint to the line to get a hard earned and fully deserved SILVER MEDAL in a seasons best time of 2m 30s.

July 21st, 2007: Young Athletes League - Match 4

Posted by Ian Field at 12:28 pm

The 4th and final Young Athletes match at Horsham was on July 21st. A holiday-affected SLH team came 3rd from the 6 teams, which means we finish 3rd overall in the league. SLH have 18 league pts, Horsham 18.5pts and East Grinstead 20pts. A good season by all competing athletes, and I look forward to next season when will will have a much-needed boost to the U17 girls section which will help hugely. There is a good flow of talented youngsters coming through at the U13 level as well.

July 11th, 2007: Young Athletes League - Match 3

Posted by Ian Field at 10:00 pm

The Young Athletes again performed well in the 3rd league match of the season, and gained a creditable 3rd place, and were just short of a few points which would have meant second place. We now have to finish in the top 2 in the last match to guarantee promotion.

Some good individual performances, noted below, from lots of athletes. Some events are still not getting covered, and coaches will be looking for volunteers this time around. Until some of these can be filled, we are always going to struggle for promotion a little, through no fault of the athletes who are already competing in multiple events. Still, there’s still a chance, so let’s really go for it at the last match in Horsham on Sunday 22nd July.
