February 28th, 2010: National XC Leeds 27 February

Posted by Jim Burdett at 12:04 pm

From Peter Emery:

Interesting day in Leeds today. Here are a few brief highlights. In
the girls U17 we had two runners at the sharp end in Grace (sorry
can’t remember the surname) and Helen Wilson, who had started really
confidently. Both finished in the top 25 or so which was a tremendous
performance.

In the senior women we had three. They were led home by Georgie
Bruinvels in 29th who had also attacked the field from the off. Carol
Evans ran her first cross-country of the seasonand seemed to get
stronger as the race went on. Third home was captain Iannella, who
started slowly slowly but must have hallucinated that Marketa was
ahead as she too pushed through.

The men had five fit and a lame goat for their team. Andy Collins led
them home from David Baker, Paul Mitchell, Alex Halpin, John Foss and
the goat. They possibly claimed three records: oldest SLH national
team ever, highest cumulative score and oldest ever scorer, but hell,
they were there, had a great time and did their best. That’s all that
matters tonight!
