SLH summer cycle training

During the summer months, we run dedicated cycle time trials and training sessions.  Look out for them from May.

These sessions look to test and train your time trialling and overall bike handling skills and speed.

They are open to anyone of any ability as all of the sessions work on loops so no-one is left behind or dropped. You go as fast as YOU can!

There is also a training theme for each session and we also ensure the locations each week are moved around the local area.

Sessions differ each week from short explosive efforts at places like Kenley Aerodrome or longer efforts round the Box Hill Olympic loop. The thinking is it will give you some base times in places you may never have done timed efforts before and you can then revisit again and retest.

The sessions are advertised each week on the club Facebook group (link at the top of this page) and the triathlon homepage.  Most sessions will start at 7pm with an optional extended ride meet time beforehand as well.  Normally this will be at 6:30pm at the South London Harriers Clubhouse in Coulsdon (194a Brighton Road) but check the website before relying on that as it may be we put bikes in the car to head somewhere with a specific reason for the journey.

Addiscombe rides

In addition, we enjoy a close association with Addiscombe Cycling Club whose Club Ride is every Saturday at 9:15 from Coulsdon South Station. These rides cater for all abilities, with several different groups.  On a normal Saturday there will be average speed 15mph, 16mph, 17mph, 18mph, 19mph, 20mph and training (faster!) groups.  On the first Saturday of each month the 15mph is replaced by a slower 'just for fun' group.

The rides are normally between 35 and 50 miles, venturing into the Surrey, Sussex and Kent countryside. Using quiet rural roads wherever possible, they always include that vital tea break stop.

Mountain bike

On occasions, Phil Todd leads weekend road or mountain bike rides that many club members take part in.  Check Forum for details.

Please check before turning up for any rides to make sure there aren't alternative plans.

Social road rides

Andy "Skip" Collins will organise a few social road rides each year - normally to Le Touquet in northern France, cycling there and back from Calais in a day and with a stop for lunch (as seen below).  Look out for details of them on the Forum in the spring.

Club members also take part in midweek time trials, check forum for details.  We are registered as a club with Cycling Time Trials and our club name is South London Harriers.
