Surrey XC Champs

There were some excellent performances by our juniors in the Surrey Cross Country Championships at Denbies Vineyard yesterday (7th January). Against very strong teams our U15 boys team prevailed to take the gold medals by just  4 points from AFD with Herne Hill Harriers in 3rdplace. There were tremendous runs by Felix Vaughan to finish in 2nd place and Harley Norman in 3rd . Joe Seal had a great run to finish 6th taking two AFD athletes on the line, and Nick  Smith fought right to the finish to take 11th place. Our U20 men also took gold medals with William Bardsley  taking a very hard fought bronze medal. He was followed home in 4th place by James Lyne with Henry Stiff completing the winning team.

Our U13 boys team finished in 8th place led home by Brandan Morrell in 15th place. The U13 girls finished in 6th place led home by Sophia Lorke in 11th and a fine run by Louise Maignan in her first run for the club in 16th place.  We had 40 juniors compete across the age groups and it was good to see so many of our first year U13 athletes taking part in this event and getting valuable experience for the future.

The senior women fought hard for a team bronze medal  led by Steph McCaul in 4th supported by Mary James 12th, Jo Vickers 21st and Sue McDonald 27th.  April and Beckie were 29th and 31st providing back up if needed.

Our Men’s team missed out on a medal by 4 points and on 2nd place by only 6 points. Tom Higgs came in 7th. followed by Rob Drake 13, Dan Gaffney 16, Ryan 25 , Wayne 40 and Andy Tindall 43. A great effort by the team and all the other seniors who turned out.
