June 19th, 2009: Report on Nat. Young Athletes League Match 2 Chelmsford
Posted by Brian and Viv at 5:54 amSouth London Harriers young athletes won the second track and field match of the National Young Athletes League held at Chelmsford on the 17th May 2009. Despite the windy, showery conditions there were some great performances. The sprinters continued where they left off from the first match with Creston Harrison and Harry Wilson winning the U13 boys 100m, Finn Nightingale and Reece Young winning the U15 boys 100m, and Josh Street and Joseph Chimkah winning the U17 boys 100m. The girls did equally as well with Maya Bruney finishing 2nd and Reshae McPherson finishing 1st in the U13 girls 75m, Vanessa La Fon won the U15 girls 100m and Zoe Collins was 2nd, and Shanice Harrison won the U17 girls 100m, and Valerie Moskalenko was 2nd.
Success continued in the 200m with Creston Harrison and Aaron Wells winning the U13 boys event, Finn Nightingale won the U15 boys race and Tyrie Obuhs was 2nd.
Josh Street and Afam Obi-Adewole won the U17 boys races. Again the girls also did very well with Maya Bruney winning the U13 girls 150m and Kalema Powell finishing 3rd. Vanessa La Fon and Kalise Powell won the the U15 girls 200m, and Shanice Harrison won the U17 girls race with S Millington finishing 2nd.
In the hurdles Reshae McPherson won the U13 girls event with Alex Roberts 2nd, Tom Kent won the U13 boys event with Aaron Wells 2nd. Reece Young and Saul Thompson finished 2nd and 1st in the U15 boys races and Nicholette Pollard-Odle
finished 2nd in the U15 girls race.
The middle distance athletes performed well with Keanu Phillips winning the U13 girls 800m and Alex Roberts finishing 2nd. Amy and Tessa Billups were 1st and 2nd in the 1200m, Lawrence Rook and Aaron Wells won the U13 boys 1500, Ben Foreman and Dominic McGeekie were 2nd and 3rd in the U15 boys 800m. Ruth Myburgh and Maria Kavanagh were 2nd in the U15 girls 800m, and Sophie Foreman was 2nd in the U15 girls 1500m. Amy Mitchell won the U17 girls 1500m and Martin Parry won the U17 boys 800m.
In the 400m Dominic McGeekie took first with Ben Foreman 3rd in the U15 boys races and Afam Obi-Adewole and Nkongni Nukajam both won the U17 boys event. Harriet and Hannah Field both finished 2nd in the U17 girls 300m.
Our throwers were also very successful with Kalema Powell finishing 3rd and Keanu Phillips finishing 2nd in the U13 girls shot putt, Simi Obi-Adewole finishing 2nd and Ben Myburgh finishing 3rd in the U15 boys shot putt, Simi and Savion Bepot winning the discus and Reece Young and Ben Myburgh taking 3rd and 2nd in the javelin.Tom Bullen and James McDonald completely dominated the U17 boys throws, winning the shot, discus and javelin. Iyani Obi-Adewole and Kalise Powell won the U15 girls discus, Iyani also won the shot and with Ruth Myburgh also won the javelin. Chioma Obi-Adewole had another outstanding competition winning the U17 girls hammer and discus and finishing 2nd in the shot. Harriet Field and Amy Mitchell both finished 2nd in the U17 girls javelin.
Reshae McPherson and Alex Roberts were 1st and 2nd in the U13 girls high jump, Maya Bruney was 2nd in the U13 girls long jump. Nicholette Pollard-Odle was 3rd in the U15 girls high jump and also took 3rd in the long jump with Marie Kavanagh taking 4th place. Finn Nightingale and Tyrie Obuhs both won the U15 boys long jump, and Saul Thompson and Ben Foreman both finished 3rd in the U15 boys high jump. Afam Obi-Adewole and Nkongni Nukajam both won the U17 boys long jump. Amy Mitchell finished 2nd in the U17 girls high jump,and Hannah Field and Valerie Moskalenko finished 2nd and 1st in the U17 girls triple jump.
South London Harriers finished the match with some great performances in the relays winning four and finishing 2nd in five. It was a great team performance and the youngsters look forward to the next match at Welwyn.
