June 19th, 2009: Press Release: Informal 10km and Dorking 10
Posted by Brian and Viv at 5:56 amLast Thursday evening SLH held the first of this summer’s popular Informal 10km races on Farthing Downs, attracting a field of over 100 runners.Conditions were perfect for this race which was won by the home club’s Jason Simpson in 35mins 36secs. Jason (over 40 vet) vied with Epsom’s Phil Sanger for most of the race, until the last mile when Simpson emphatically outsprinted Sanger to finish almost 1 minute ahead. The next seven finishers were all from SLH, with Matt Chapman 3rd in 37.17, Paul Hone 4th in 37.30, Alex Halpin 5th in 38.04, Tony Harran 6th in 38.21, Jim Burdett 7th in 39.05, Dan Gillett 8th in 39.40 and Mark Burtwell 9th in 40.13. First woman finisher was SLH’s Ruth Hutton (vet 40) in 44.13; 28th overall. The next Informal 10km will be held on 25th June, details from www.southlondonharriers.org
Jason Simpson won his second race of the week on Sunday, taking the prize for the Dorking 10 mile event in 53.09. Stuart Major (running for Thames Hare & Hounds) finished 4th in 54.04. Alex Halpin was 31st (62.07), Dan Gillett 35th (63.04), Over 50 veteran Ian Kitching 39th (63.27), Paul Mitchell 55th (65.00), Robin Holmes 76th (66.52), John Foss 114th (69.37), Pippa Major 123rd overall and 12th woman finisher (70.38), Clare Settle 171st (73.46), Bill Arnold 178th (74.03), Ken Lee (over 60 vet) 216th (76.54), Pam Iannella 240th (78.34), and Matthew Birchley 357th (84.05).
There were 670 finishers.
