Posted by Brian and Viv at 10:21 pmSouth London Harriers had a record turn-out of competitors for their Primary Schools races held on Farthing Downs on Saturday.
There were 96 runners in the girls’ race and 133 in the boys’.
The girls’ overall winner was Georgia Holden, an SLH athlete, representing St. Davids School, Purley in 8mins 33 seconds and the boys winner was Laurence Rook of Whyteleafe School in 7 minutes 26 seconds, also an SLH athlete.
St. Mary’s School, Oxted took the team prize in both races.
The under 14 boys’ event for the Hampshire Cup was won by Dom Nolan of Oxted School in 11mins 24 seconds, with Oxted School taking the team prize. The under 14 girls’ race winner was Alex Roberts of South London Harriers in 13mins 45 with Maria Kavanagh, also of SLH, second in 13.49. The team prize went to Tonbridge Grammar School.
The under 16s’ race for boys for the Lemon Norris Cup was won by Charlie Corbett from Oxted School in 16.23 and again Oxted took the team prize. The under 16 girls’ race was won by Tonbridge Grammar School, led home by Lucy Reid in 18.24.
The last event of the day for over 16’s was won by Sam Wade of Ardingly in 20.16 and his team took away the Densham Cup. The girls’ race was contested by Joanna Curry and Alice Denyer of Tonbridge Grammar, both recording 29.39.
A number of SLH athletes were chosen to represent Surrey at the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships held at Nottingham on Saturday.
Star performer of the day was the Club’s Loulou Rowlands who was second in the under 17 women’s race in 18.29, leading the Surrey team to victory.
Georgie Bruinvels placed 33rd in the Senior Women’s race in 30.40 and Sophie Cowper was 82nd in the under 20 women’s race in 27.01.
Helen Wilson was part of the winning Surrey team in the under 15 girls’, placing 53rd in 16.14 and Sophie Foreman was 15th in the under 13’s event in 14.02, again helping Surrey to victory.
Tom Holden was 23rd in the under 13 boys’ in 13.06.
