December 15th, 2008: Press Release : Ranelagh Mob Match
Posted by Brian and Viv at 5:10 pmThe conditions at Richmond Park could not have been worse than it was for SLH’s annual Mob Match against Ranelagh Harriers on Saturday. It rained throughout the race, and it was cold. There was lots of standing water and a bit of a wind leaving most runners feeling very cold by the end of the 7½ mile race.
There was little comfort in the results for SLH, either: a narrow victory by host club Ranelagh.
There were 80 runners for this match and scoring was set at 21 per side with Ranelagh finishing with just 119 points ahead of SLH.
SLH’s Stuart Major was the overall race winner in 45.10 with Chris Illman of Ranelagh second in 45.16. James Buchanan ran as a guest for SLH and finished a close third in 45.19. Pawel Bal was fourth for SLH in 45.24 and David Baker was next home for SLH, fifth in 47.47. Ranelagh took the next three places, then the SLH runners scored as follows: 10th, David Ogden (49.21), 11th, Mark Burtwell (49.39), 12th Andy Collins (50.21), 13th Andy Evans (50.45), 19th Antonio Martins (52.39), 20th Paul Mitchell (52.42).
Rachel Coe O’Brien was 23rd and the first woman finisher in 53.30, well over a minute ahead of Ranelagh’s first lady and first of the 23 running.
26th Clive Edgington (54.49), 30th Mike Airey (55.52), 31st John Foss (56.04), 32nd Peter Emery (56.29), 34th Peter Groves (56.50), 40th Christine Costiff (58.00), 41st Matt Saunders (58.17), 44th Colin Young (59.05), 50th Clare Settle (60.52), 53rd Francis Upcott (63.59), 57th Marketa Martins (64.49), 59th Pam Iannella (65.07), 62nd Nigel Costiff (67.36) and 68th Jake Clausen (75.35).
