Posted by Brian and Viv at 11:48 pmThe results from the club’s young athletes in last week’s Surrey League Division One matches were impressive.
In the boy’s matches at Wimbledon Common the under 13’s won their event and the under 15/17 age group were third. Under 13 runners were as follows: 3rd Tom Holden (16.44), 4th Laurence Rook (16.54), 7th James Male (17.09), 8th Ben Foreman (17.23 and 12th Aaron Wells (18.24). The under 17’s were: 7th Adam Gye (15.00), 8th Martin Parry (15.46), 10th Ben McDaniel (16.01) and 19th Gregory Campbell (20.58). Representing the under 15’s was M Wheeler who finished 17th in 16.52.
In the girls’ events at Lightwater Lulu Rowlands stole the show once again, winning the under 17’s race in 15.19. Amy Mitchell was 25th (17.49) and Harriet Field was 32nd (18.36). In the under 15’s Helen Wilson ran a plucky 9th place in 16.25 with Ruth Myburgh 29th in 18.11. In the under 13’s race, Sophie Foreman impressed with a 2nd place in 13.19, Tessa Billup was 13th (14.35) with twin Amy 18th (14.56), Bronte Rowlands was 24th (15.10), Georgie Farrell was 27th (15.36) and Myra Akinibi was 33rd (16.26). The under 13’s took third place in the match and are 2nd overall in the league with the under 15’s 5th (6th overall) and the under 17’s 3rd.
The seniors competed at Lloyd Park last weekend in the South of Thames Cross Country event over 5 miles. Michelle Jenkins winning the women’s race and leading the SLH ‘A’ team home first. The ‘B’ team were third and the ‘C’ team fifth. Michelle timed 34.56, Ruth Hutton was 6th (35.52), Carol Evans was 8th (36.15), Pippa Major was 11th (37.33) for the ‘A’s. Nicky Morgan 12th (37.39), Ciara Williams 13th (37.54), Viv Mitchell 16th (38.43) and Adele Farrell 18th (39.08) were the ‘B’ team.
In the men’s race, David Ogden was first home for SLH in 35th (32.33) with Andy Davis 44th (33.26), Andy Collins 52nd (34.37) and John Foss 82nd (37.11) giving the men 11th team position.
Sunday’s Brighton 10km gave some SLH runners a chance to stretch their legs on a fast, flat course for a change. David Baker timed 34.40, Mark Burtwell 36.20, Rob Harrison 36.50. Sharon Wyatt finished in 49.14, Lynda Gale 52.17 and Ayisha Hooper 55.06.
Other club members took part in the Epsom 10 mile road race which had 340 finishers. Pawel Bal was 8th (57.52), Robin Holmes 43rd (66.55), Warwick Bilham 106th (74.10), Trudy Kuhn 160th (78.35) and Jane Luxton 175th (79.49).
