In last Saturday’s very wet conditions, South London Harriers’ ladies team were victorious in the Reigate Priory Cross Country Relays held over a hilly course at Priory Park. More below:
Michelle Jenkins ran 16:47 for 3rd place; Gemma Marrs’ 17:03 pulled back a place finishing in 2nd and Georgie Bruinvels’ 16:03 (2nd fastest lap of the day) brought SLH home in first place, some 34 seconds ahead of the ladies from Herne Hill Harriers.
SLH strongly supported this event by fielding nine of the twenty five ladies teams taking part. One of these SLH teams was an Under 17 team who were allowed to compete but not to score in the results as they were below the set minimum age limit of 17. This team was led off by Loulou Rowlands who blew away all opposition by running 15:51, the fastest time of the day and beating the first scoring runner by 22 seconds. With H Field and Amy Mitchell also running on top form this team would have been a top ten finisher.
The SLH “B” team of Ruth Hutton, Nicky Morgan and Natalie Harvey finished 5th; the “C” team of Pippa major, Clare Settle and Christine Costiff was 9th.
The men’s event was also strongly supported by SLH with 3 complete teams of 6 runners each taking part. The ‘A’ team of David Sinclair (15.23), Matt Grant (14.18), Andy Davis (15.36), Tom Hart (15.13), Lee Morgan (15.13) and Dominic Stiert (14.41) finished in third place. The ‘B’ team of Mark Burtwell (15.55), Andy Collins (15.34), Patrick Canavan (15.18), David Baker (15.35), Dan Gillett (15.49) and Alex Halpin (16.28) were 7th with the ‘C’ team finishing 17th. 30 teams competed in total.
ROAD RUNNING
SLH runner Ciara Williams had a fantastic run in the Dublin Marathon last week to finish in 19th place in 3hrs 2mins and in the New York Marathon Chris Phelan was 7th in his age band (o/45) in 2hrs 44mins and Paul Mitchell also finished well up the field in 2hrs 55mins.
