Posted by Brian and Viv at 4:30 pmWith a history of winning medals and a large entry in the Surrey Relays held at Wimbledon Park last Saturday, South London Harriers looked set for fine results.
The relays are run over a 3 mile loop which leaves the Park and takes in a significant hill on its course and then finishes back at the Park’s athletic track. This year’s event took place in fine, sunny conditions.
The senior men’s A team of six runners finished in silver medal position behind Belgrave Harriers. Tom Jenkins timed 14.56, Matt Grant 16.15, Tom Hart 16.24, Michael McManus 15.46, Andy Tindall 14.54 and Jason Simpson 14.26. Jason’s run was the fastest lap of the day.
The veteran men over 40 were third in their four lap race. David Ogden timed 16.05, David Baker 16.11, Mike Airey 17.04 and Andy Evans 16.17.
The over 50 veterans won their event. Clive Edgington 16.47, Ian Kitching 16.25, Glen Quarton 17.07 and Barry Attwell 17.11. Ian Kitching’s time was the fastest lap in this age group.
The senior ladies were also recipients of gold medals with Michelle Jenkins running 17.25, Gemma Marrs 18.26, Becky Woodland 18.02 and Georgie Bruinvels 16.39, again the fastest lap by a senior woman.
The ladies over 35 team finished second. Carol Evans first leg of 17.43 being the fastest in this age group. Pippa Major ran 19.40, Nicky Morgan 18.56 and Ruth Hutton 18.12.
Chris Phelan and Paul Mitchell both ran in the Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday with Chris breaking the 75 minute barrier to gain a well deserved pb and second over 45 veteran spot. Paul timed 1.24.05, having competed the day before in the Surrey Relays.
