With a 3rd win in 3 matches, SLH Women extended their lead at the top of Division 1, with an outstanding performance by the Senior Women, especially on the track on what was a very hot day in Walton.

U15 Girls

Shanice Harrison completed a 100 (13.4) 200 (26.7) double with Vanessa La Fon winning the B 100 (14.2) and Ruth Myburgh 2nd in the B 200 (30.6). In the 800 Ruth was 2nd in the A (2:40.1) with Alex Roberts 2nd in the B (2:57.7). Maria Kavanagh was 3rd in the A 1500 (5:28.6) and Sophie Foreman returning from injury to win the B (5:34.5). 2 very young hurdlers made their scoring debuts with Reshae McPherson showing great promise for 3rd in the A 75mH (14.7 PB) and Alex 3rd in the B (17.3). In the field, Chioma Obi-Adewole was A string with a great PB in coming 2nd in the Shot (9.58m), 3rd Discus (17.08m) and 4th Javelin (12.20m). Sister Iyanni Obi-Adewole was the B with 2nd in the Shot (7.06m),3rd in the Javelin (7.99m) and a PB for 3rd in the Discus (14.66m). Valeria Moskalenko was 3rd in the A Long Jump (3.96m) with Vanessa 2nd in the B (3.91m). Alex was also 4th in a disappointing High jump for the girls, A (1.15m) with Reshae 2nd in the B (1.15m). The girls, Vanessa, Reshae, Ruth and Shanice, were 3rd in the 4×100m relay. The non-scoring relay team (Hannah, Val, Tianne and Maria) were also not far behind them.

Seniors

Of the possible 18 races, the women won 15 of them, with a 2nd and a 4th to put on an awesome show. Natalie Bartley won the A 100 (12.4) with 2nd in the A 200 (25.9) affected by a stomach cramp in the final 50m. Estelle Didoh won the B 100 (13.3) and Freddie Foster the B 200 (26.3). Jessica Case won the A 400m (59.5) with Harriet Field winning the B (62.5 PB). Michelle Jenkins ran superbly to win the A 800 (2:23.3) and also the B 3000m (10:52.0 PB) at her first attempt at the distance, while Alison Collins won the B 800 (2:39.9). Georgie Bruinvels ran away from the opposition to win the A 300m (10:34.3). Pam Ianella also ran the non-scoring 3000m in her track debut (13:28). Many thanks also to Pam for standing in at late notice for the 1500m where she was 4th in the A string (6:18.0), this with less than five minutes notice and straight after eating her lunch ! In the hurdles, a clean sweep with Jessica winning the A 100mH (16.6) and the A 400mH (67.7) and Sian Mitchell closing on Jessica to win the B 100mH (16.7) and the B 400mH (78.9) which included a complete stop after 200m ! The day was capped by victory in both relays, the 4×100 (Sian, Estelle, Freddie, Natalie) and the 4×400 (Michelle, Harriet, Estelle and Jessica). Well done all.

In the field, Captain Jill Lula won the A Hammer with a very good throw (33.23m) with 15 year old Georgina West 3rd in the B (20.66m). Georgina was 2nd in the A Shot (8.57m) and won the B Discus with a very good thrwe (24.40m). Bonita Francis was 3rd in the A Discus (24.90m), 2nd in the B Shot (8.51m) and won the B Javelin (20.52m). Harriet was 2nd in the A Javelin (23.25m). Good stuff. Sian continued her great form her favourite event, the Long Jump (NOT) with 2nd in the A (4.51m) with Hannah Field 3rd in the B (3.97m), and Hannah was then 4th in the A High Jump despite a PB (1.35m PB) with Harriet 2nd in the B (1.00m).

Despite some absentees in both age groups, this was a very strong performance from the Seniors in particular. Phil now has his aim set, not just on promotion, but the championship ! We travel to Watford on 26th July, and to Oxford (who are currently 3rd) in August, so let’s make sure we stay fit, keep up the training and get on that coach !

Cheers, Phil and Ian
