July 4th, 2008: Young Athletes Match 3 (22 June)

Posted by Ian Field at 12:21 pm

Good day out in Kingston once again, as the Young Athletes finished a comfortable 2nd behind host club Kingston to consolidate 2nd place in the League. Promotion beckons barring complete disaster in the last match, although it is almost mathematically impossible for us to be caught, so very well done all !

Although slightly weaker in the older age group this time, it was still a good turnout and although the objective of keeping with Kingston seemed more and more unlikely as the day wore on, at least we saw off Hercule Wimbledon to secure 2nd place.

U13 Girls

Vanessa La fon continues to dominate the 75m with victory in the A string (10.4), with Jazz Crawford 2nd in the B (11.4). Maya Bruney won the A 150m (22.3 PB) with Zoe Collins winning the B (23.3). Kalise Powell ran well for 2nd in the A 800m (2:45.9) with Amy Billups winning the B (2:52.8). In the 1200m Sophie Foreman was 2nd in the A (4:40.0) with Tessa winning the B (4:41.4). Reshae McPherson ran brilliantly to win the A 70m Hurdles (13.3) with Vanessa 2nd in the B (16.7). In the field Emily Ashmore, competing for the first time, was 2nd in the A Long Jump (3.71m) with Jazz 4th in the B (2.37m). Alex Roberts was 2nd in the A high Jump (1.20m) with Reshae winning the B (1.15m). Zoe was 3rd in the A Shot (4.09m) with Kalema Powell 2nd in the B (3.50m). The girls, Maya, Emily, Kalise and Vanessa,  then won the 4×100m relay

Non-scoring 75m (SLH had 11 of the 13 starters) - Kalise (11.2) Maya (11.3) Reshae (11.3) Emily (11.5) Zoe (11.8) (anna Jones (12.2) Kalema (12.3) Kyra (12.4) Amy (12.9) Tessa (13.0) Georgia Holden (14.3).

Non scoring 800m - Alex (3:00.2) Kyra (3:01.2 PB) Bronte (3:06.5) Georgia (3:17.6).

U13 Boys

Aaron Wells was 5th in the A 100m (16.1) with Harry Wilson 4th in the B (16.0). Saul Thompson ran away with the A 200m (28.7) with Aaron 3rd in the B (31.7). In the 800m it was a clean sweep for SLH with Laurence Rook superb winning the A (2:41.5) and debutant Tom Holden winning the B (2:41.8). Ben Foreman was 4th in the A 1500m (5:20.7) with Tom Aubertin 2nd in the B (5:38.3). Saul was again unstoppable in the 75m hurdles winning the A by a distance (13.1). In the field Saul was 2nd in the A High Jump with a PB (1.35m PB), with Louis Rossi-Jones unlucky attempting this event for the first time. Louis then made up for it and jumped well for 4th in the A Long Jump (3.62m) with Harry 4th in the B (4.29m). Kyal Truong-Clarke again won the A Shot (8.15m) with Ben Myburgh 3rd in the B (4.47m PB). The boys were also 3rd in the 4×100m relay.

Non scoring 100m - Creston Harrison (15.6) Louis (15.8) Kaidi Akinnibi (16.1) Lawrence (16.9) Matthew Wise (18.3) Ben (19.1).

Non scoring 800m - Louis (3:02.2) Kaidi (3:17.3)

U15 Girls

The girls were short on numbers this time out, but performed well. Shanice Harrison won the A 100m (13.5) and the A 200m (27.3) with Ruth Myburgh 3rd in the B 100m (14.6). Ruth then ran excellently to win the A 800m (2:42.4) with Alice Kerr in her first race for SLH 2nd in the B (3:01.3). Sadly no 1500m runners, and the perhaps the Hurdles is best forgotten this time. In the field Ruth was 3rd in the A Long Jump (3.60m) and no High Jumpers. In the throws, Chioma Obi-Adewole was 2nd in the A Shot (8.50m) 2nd A Discus (19.72m) 4th A Javelin (12.41m). Sister Iyanni won the B Shot with a very good throw (7.31m) 2nd B Discus (15.13m) and 3rd B Javelin (8.63m). Shanice, Ruth, Lauren and Val were 3rd in the 4×100m relay. Good effort girls.

U15 Boys

Tyrie Obuks was 4th in the A 100m (13.9) with Finn nightingale 4th in the B (13.2). Tyrie was 3rd in the A 200m (28.1) with Finn running extremely well for 2nd in the B (26.8). Josh Street won the A 400m with a great front run (54.0 PB) with newcomer Nkongni Nukajam winning the B in his first race (58.4). Josh then also won the A 800m (2:10.3). Adam Atkins was 4th in the A 1500m (5:12.4). Richard Morris was somewhat unlucky to finish only 5th in a very close 80m Hurdles (16.1). Finn continued his great day with a PB for 2nd in the A Long Jump (4.97m) with Tyrie 2nd in the B (3.97m). Adesimi Obi-Adewole was a below-par 5th in the A Shot (6.19m) but made up for that winning the A Discus (19.10m PB). Richard was 2nd in the B (14.12m). James McDonald was 3rd in the A Javelin (27.51m) with Richard winning the B (20.75m PB).  The relay team were 2nd also. Good stuff lads.

U17 Girls

Very low turnout partly due to illness and GCSEs. Valeria Moskalenko, our only Russian team member, was 3rd in the A 100m (15.0) but unfortunately no-jumped in the Long Jump. Amy Mitchell won the A 800m (2:39.1) was 3rd in the A High jump (1.30m) and 2nd in the A Discus (12.13m).

U17 Boys

Jeremy Sharpe was 3rd in the A 100m (12.0) with Afam Obi-Adewole winning the B (12.0). Ben Wynter recorded 12.1 in the non-scoring 100m with Joe Miller also running 100m (14.6). Ben was 4th in the A 200m (24.2) with Jeremy 2nd in the B (25.0). Ben McDaniel was 3rd in the A 400m (60.7) and 2nd in the A 800m (2:07.6) with Adam Gye winning the B 800m (2:09.4). Greg Campbell was 4th in the A 1500m (5:05.3). The boys were 2nd in the 4×100m and 3rd in the 4×400m relays. In the field Jeremy was 2nd in the A long Jump (5.73m) with Afam winning the B (5.55m). Thomas Bullen won the A shot (11.32 PB) won the A Discus (30.93m) and was 3rd in the A Javelin despite a huge throw (33.95m). Richard Humphreys was 2nd in the B Shot (8.16m0 and A Hammer (18.10m). Afam was 2nd in the B Discus (27.90m). Richard and Thomas also helped the 4×400m relay team very effectively.

Overall a good team effort to finish 2nd, this time it was the Boys’ turn to hold the team together. Hopefully we can get a full-strength team out for the last match and give Kingston a fright if not beat them on their home track next time. See you all Sun 20th July at Kingsmeadow once more.
