July 2nd, 2008: NADI 2 and Dysart Dash
Posted by Brian and Viv at 11:38 amA record turnout of 112 runners completed the second of the summer’s Informal 10km races held on Farthing Downs in dry but blustery conditions on Thursday evening. SLH’s Stuart Major consolidated his return to fitness after a long-term injury to win in 35mins 05secs, just one second ahead of clubmate Pawel Bal. A strong challenge from Phil Sanger of Epsom and Ewell gave him a third place finish in 36.00 mins.
First over 40 veteran was SLH’s Chris Phelan in fourth place in 36.42 and the next seven places all went to the host club’s members. Ian Kitching being first over 50 veteran in 38.04 in ninth spot. Clive Beauvais was first over 60 finisher in 42.48 for 27th place.
First woman was SLH’s Beckie Woodland in 20th place overall in a time of 41.22. Rachel Coe-O’brien (SLH) was second in 42.13 and Ruth Hutton (SLH) took first veteran woman’s spot, 26th overall in 42.40 with Carol Evans not far behind in 42.51.
Stuart Major was just testing the ground with his mid-week win at Coulsdon and went on to win the Dystart Dash 10km on the road at Petersham on Sunday in a time of 32.42. David Sinclair (20th in 35.29), over 40 vet Andy Evans (21st in 35.33) and Matt Chapman (23rd in 35.47) came away with third team prize from this event, with Beckie Woodland taking third senior woman’s spot in 39.25.
In Saturday’s track and field fixture at Ealing St. Mary, South London’s small but strong team finished second behind the host club.
The next Informal 10km on Farthing Downs will be held on Thursday, 31st July starting at 7.30pm. Full details from www.southlondonharriers.org.
