June 21st, 2008: Southern Women’s League - Match 2

Posted by Ian Field at 11:36 pm

We travelled to the league leaders home venue, won by 20pts, and came home as the new league leaders. This was an outstanding performance by both the Senior women and U15 girls., and without any recognised jumpers. Well done all.

The outstanding performance of the day was by U15 girl, Jahisha Thomas, who broke the club record for Long jump, 5.08m, and recorded 11.8s in the 75m hurdles. Both these performances meet the qualifying standard for the English Schools Championships. For good measure Jahisha cleared 1.45m in the high jump.

The Seniors recorded 26 1st or 2nd places, with the U15 girls recording 20 ! Excellent team performance by all the athletes involved. Roll on the next match at Walton AC on Saturday 28th June.

Seniors

Estelle Didoh was 2nd in the A 100m (12.6) with Sian Mitchell 2nd in the B (13.3). Estelle was also 2nd in the A 200m (26.5) with Harriet Field recording a PB for 2nd in the B (28.0 PB). Vice-skipper Jessica Case was 2nd in the A 400m in an excellent time (60.4), with Loulou rowlands 2nd in the B (62.1). Michelle Jenkins ran well to win the A 800m (2:22.3) and was 2nd in the A 1500m (4:57.5). Stephanie Ware won the B 800m (2:31.1) and Amy Mitchell won the b 1500m (5:21.6). Gemma Marrs romped well clear to win the A 3000m (10:55.4) with Viv Mitchell winning the B (11:46.1). A clean sweep of the hurdles saw Jessica win both A strings with 100mH (17.1) and 400mH (66.1), and Sian winning both b string 100mH (17.2) and 400mH (73.8). Sian, Harriet, Jessica and Estelle were 2nd in the 4×100m relay, and Loulou, Harriet, Michelle and Jessica were 2nd in the 4×400m.

In the field, Sian, with her first Long Jump since primary school, produced a great leap of 4.89m for 3rd in the A string, with Jessica, giggling and talking all the way down the runway for 4th in the B (3.34m). The enthusiastic coaching from Jahisha, Harriet and Estelle didn’t seem to help there !   In the High Jump Amy Mitchell was 3rd in the A (1.30m) with Harriet 3rd in the B (1.20m). The throws were magnificent, and we almost completed a clean sweep ! Jill Lula won the B Shot (8.24m) the B Discus (25.09m) and the A Hammer with an excellent throw (33.97m). Georgina West won the A Shot (8.52m) the A Discus (25.77m) and was 2nd in the B Hammer (22.22m). Zoe Wickens won the A Javelin (33.12m) with Harriet winning the B (23.91m). Superb by all.

U15 girls

Shanice Harrison won both A string sprints, 100m (13.1) and 200m (26.8). Nana Antwidjon won the B 100m (13.4) and was 2nd in the B 200m (28.6). 2 superb PBs in the 800m with Ruth Myburgh A (2:35.5 PB) and Maria Kavanagh B (2:38.9 PB). 2 debutantes in the 1500m, with Francesca Parris 2nd in the A (5:39.2) and Alice Kerr B (6:20.1). Well done both of you. Jahisha Thomas won the A 75m Hurdles (11.8) with Janet Foskett winning the B (15.3). Nana, Vanessa La Fon, Jahisha and Shanice were 2nd in the 4×100m relay.

In the field, again, almost complete domination by the girls. Jahisha was 2nd in the A High Jump (1.45m) with Megan Waller 2nd in the B (1.10m PB). Jahisha then won the A Long jump with a fantastic leap (5.08m). Nana won the B (4.19m). Chioma Obi-Adewole won the A Shot (8.45m) and the A discus (16.80m). Sister Iyanni Obi-Adewole won the B Shot (6.37m) the B Discus (13.78m) and was 2nd in the B Javelin (8.28m), with Nana winning the A Javelin (22.32m). Excellent throwing girls.

There were also some non-scoring events, in which Jazz Crawford ran a PB in the 100m. Thanks also to her dad for helping encourage and warm-up the U15 girls before action.

Great atmosphere in the team, and a great result ladies. Keep it going. who said Div.1 was too hard ?
