News from South London Harriers
June 1st, 2008: Press Release : NADI May 2008
Posted by Brian and Viv at 4:48 pmDespite the rain, last Thursday’s South London Harrier’s Near-As-Dammit 10k race was far from a wash-out: 71 determined souls braved the slippery conditions to complete the event held on Coulsdon’s Farthing Downs.
SLH’s Stuart Major has suffered a long-term injury that kept him out of competition for more than two years but hopefully his problems are behind him now. He showed his return to form by winning this race in a time of 36.30, chased to the line by Pawel Bal (also SLH), just 3 seconds behind. Next in was James Buchanan of Striders of Croydon in a time of 37.02. SLH took the next five places with Matt Chapman (37.18), Daniel Sellman (37.24), Tom Hart (37.28), Dan Gillett (38.32) and David Ogden (39.04) who was the first veteran (mv40).
Beckie Woodland (SLH) had a good run to finish in first woman’s spot – she was 20th overall in a time of 42.26. The second woman finisher had accidentally taken a short course and so Pippa Major (SLH) was promoted to second place (38th overall) in 47.10. Chlloe Thomas was third placed in 47.29 just one second ahead of SLH’s Clare Settle.
This event was the first of the summer’s three Near-As-Dammit Thursday evening races. The next is on Thursday 26 June starting at 7.30pm. Visit the SLH website www.southlondonharriers.org for full details or register by 6.45pm on race day at South London Harrier’s Headquarters, 194A Brighton Road, Coulsdon (opposite the library).
SLH’s Natalie Harvey braved Bank Holiday Monday’s downpour to compete in a high class field in the BUPA London 10000 Road Race. Her time of 36.22 brought her home 37th overall and 11th woman’s place.
