Six very happy South London Harriers returned from Sutton Park Birmingham on Saturday having won bronze medals at one of the premier events of the masters’ racing calendar, the National Masters Road Relays Championships. The team of six veterans aged over 50 competed in stages over the 3 mile relay course to finish ahead of 29 other teams.
Clive Edgington ran the lead leg in 17mins 18secs to finish in 16th place and handed over to Ian Kitching whose 17mins 10secs pulled the team up to 6th. John Quaintance retained 6th with his 18mins 01sec run. Ray Marriott ran the fastest lap on his leg to finish in 15mins 58secs and take the team into the lead. Barry Attwell retained the lead with 17mins 11secs and handed on to Francis Upcott who then had the daunting task of trying to stay out in front, but his best effort of 18mins 40secs was not quite enough, giving the team their third place finish behind Wesham Road Runners and Oxford City.

The first running of the club’s popular summer evening informal 10km races takes place on Thursday, 29th May on Farthing Downs. 7.30 start. Full details and entry from at Informal 10ks
