Posted by Brian and Viv at 6:38 amIt has been an action packed week for members of South London Harriers with competition across the board.
The Surrey Track and Field Championships were held at Kingsmeadow on 10th and 11th May with the following performances:
In the competition for under 13 girls, Maria Kavanagh placed 9th in the 1500m final in 5.28.25, having finished 6th in the 800m in 2.43.79.
Jahisha Thomas had a busy outing winning the Under 15 girls’ 75m hurdles in 11.71and then going on to win the Long Jump with 4.88m. Jahisha then took 3rd in the 100m in 13.31. Shanice Harrison (under 15) was 2nd in the 200m in 27.13, having won her heat in 27.22 and then placed 2nd in the 100m final in 13.22.
Iyani Obi-Adewole was 6th in the under 15 Javelin with 9.90m. Chioma Obi-Adewole threw the shot 7m 91 for 3rd place and Yani Obi-Adwole threw 7.23 for 6th. Chioma also placed 6th in the Discus with 19.73m.
In the Under 17 women’s events, Loulou Rowlands won her heat of the 800m in 2.24.87 to then took 3rd in the final with 2.17.64. Harriet Field placed 6th in the 800m final with 2.28.08.
In the Senior Women’s 800m final, Stephanie Ware was 5th in 2.28.06 and Michelle Jenkins was 4th in the 1500m final with 4.54.72. Jessica Case was 2nd in the 400m in 1.08.39 and Nicky Morgan was 3rd in the 3000m with 11.22.10.
Representing the under 13 boys, Ben Foreman was 6th in the 800 final in 2.35.37, having qualified in 2.32.02. Ben then went on to run the 1500m in 5.18.14 for 10th place.
Adesemi Obi-Adewole threw the shot 7m 10 for 3rd place and then won the discus competition with 18m 36.
In the Under 17 age group. Ben McDaniel was 3rd in his heat of the 800m and placed 6th in the final in 2.08.70.
Afam Obi-Adewole’s 10m 21 for the shot final (Under 17) gave him 2nd place.
S.L.H. had three finalists in the Under 20’s 1500m with Daniel Sellman finishing 3rd in 4.14.02, Michael McManus 4th in 4.16,.07 and Paul Dyke, 9th in 4.35.45. Likewise in the 800m, Matthew Grant was 3rd in 2.00.62, Alex Rice was 6th in 2.03.27 and Paul Dyke was 9th in 2.12.62. Michael McManus also contested the 3000m, finishing 6th in 9.25.88. Billy Porter was 7th in the 100m final with 11.62. Oliver Serviable competed in the Long Jump, finishing 4th in 5m13.
The previous weekend, youngsters from South London Harriers had competed in their first track and field competition of the season, also at Kingsmeadow, and with some brilliant individual performances had finished second of the seven teams competing, just behind the host club, Kingston.
Road Running: Sunday’s Richmond Half Marathon, saw S.L.H.’s Francis Staunton take a minute of his personal best for this distance to take the Surrey Half Marathon Championship in 74mins 42secs. Chris Phelan was 6th in 77.22 and Paul Mitchell 28th in 83.22 with a further seven members of SLH running the event.
Paul Mitchell had also competed midweek at the Rosenheim track and field event at Battersea, covering the 2000m steeple chase, the 800m, the 3000m and the Long Jump! He was assisted by Andy Davis who ran the 100m, 200m and1500m. Sam Hardy did the 400m.
Midweek, South London Harriers had fielded four teams for the Beckenham Road Relays consisting of 3 legs over 2.6 miles. The veteran men’s team was 7th with Ray Marriott running the fastest lap in 13.49. The Senior Men were 12th, the women’s team 2nd (Beckie Woodland fastest with 16.04) and the mixed team 38th.
Other results: Sutton 10km, 3rd Pawel Bal, 34.51, Andy Evans (vet 40), 36.00, Matt Chapman 36.54. Pippa Major (lady vet 35) 41.11, Beckie Woodland 41.16 and Rachel Coe-O’Brien 42.13. (17 SLH runners took part).
David Ogden (over 40 veteran) ran the hilly Halstead Marathon in hot conditions, finishing in 3hrs 14mins and Andy Davis timed 66mins 39secs for his ten mile win at Lingfield.
And lastly, the huge field of the Cancer Research Race for Life at Lloyd Park on Sunday had South London’s Jo Quantrill in second place with a very good time on a hot day.
