May 11th, 2008: Staunton takes Surrey gold at Ranelagh
Posted by Paul at 11:07 pmFrancis Staunton shaved a minute off his personal best to finish third in the Ranelagh Half Marathon today, in 1:14:42. This race encorporated the Surrey Half-Marathon Championship, and with the first two runners not being Surrey-qualified, it meant he was awarded the senior men’s Surrey gold medal. Following in the wake of Jason Simpson’s win last year an SLH member retained that success for the club.
He was ably supported by Chris Phelan, 6th (and third V40) in 1:17:22, and also by Paul Mitchell in 1:23:22, giving SLH second in the team prize, and silver in the Surrey Champs team medal. Strength in depth was shown with Alex Halpin finishing in 1:24:37, Mark Burtwell in 1:27:23, and Simon Rosser in 1:30:02. Pam Ianella was our first lady home in 1:49:14, ahead of Jake Clausen in 1:51:15, Ayisha Hooper in 1:59:29 and Jo Farrar in 2:05:39.
Second claim Dave Freeman also had an excellent race, running 1:15:53 to finish fourth overall and secure the V40 prize.
