Posted by Ian Field at 11:22 amWhat a start to the new season in Div 1. Fabulous weather, and a high scoring victory put the team 4th out of 20 teams after the first round.
SLH women’s team scored 150pts to win comfortably by 29pts. There was a full 52-seater coach ready at Coulsdon clubhouse at 10:30, and it returned full of tired athletes and supporters later that day.
Seniors
Natalie Bartley won both the 100m (12.4) and the 200m (25.6) A strings, with Estelle Didoh winning the B 100m (13.1) and Freddie Foster the B 200m (26.2). Jessica Case was 2nd in the A 400m (63.2) with Harriet Field 2nd in the B string (65.6). Georgie Bruinvels was 2nd in both the A 800m (2:30.7) and the A 1500m (5:16.3), with Amy Mitchell winning the B string 1500m with a PB (5:26.0), and Stephanie Ware 2nd in the B 800m (2:35.0). Pippa Major was 3rd in the A 3000m (11:21.0) with Viv Mitchell 2nd in the B string (12:04.6). Jessice also won the both the A Hurdles with the 100m (17.7) and the 400m (72.0). Estelle, Jessica, Freddie and Natalie won the 4×100m relay, while Jessica, Georgie, Harriet and Freddie were 2nd in the 4×400m.
In the field, we were short of jumpers, but tried hard. we had no Triple Jumpers, but Harriet was 4th in the A Long Jump (3.99m) with Estelle 3rd in the B (3.77m). In the High Jump, Amy Mitchell was 3rd in the A string (1.30m) with Harriet 3rd in the B (1.00m). We scored consistently well in the throws, as Zoe Wickens was her usual dominant self, winning the A string Javelin (34.41m) with Bonita Francis winning the B (26.17m). Bonita was 2nd in the A shot (8.97m), the A Discus (25.67m) and the B Hammer (20.68m).Team captain Jill Lula was 2nd in the A Hammer (32.36m), the B Shot (7.77m) and the B Discus (24.30m).
U15 Girls
Shanice Harrison was 2nd in both A string sprints, 100m (13.2) and 200m (27.4). Megan Waller won the B 100m in a new PB (13.5). Nana Djan fell at the line when coming 3rd in the B 200m (29.7), and injure her ankle quite badly. hope you recover quickly Nana. there was a great SLH battle in the 800m, with Maria Kavanagh 2nd in the A string with a PB (2:40.4) while Ruth Myburgh won the B string, also with a PB (2:41.4). 2 very young newcomers ran the 1500m. Tessa Billups was 3rd in the A string with a PB (5:51.5), while sister Amy was 3rd in the B string (5:57.9). Jahisha Thomas got a PB while coming 2nd in the A 75m Hurdles (12.1). The girls then ran a very close up 2nd in the relay, with Megan, Jahisha, Shanice and newcomer Vanessa La Fon. Jahisha was also 2nd in the A High Jump with a fantastic PB (1.45m) while also dashing over in between jumps to get 2nd in the A Long Jump also (4.75m). Another young newcomer, Alex Roberts was impressive coming 2nd in the B High Jump with a PB (1.20m). Yet another very young debutante, Maya Bruney, was 2nd with a PB in the B Long jump (4.07m). Tessa, Amy, Alex and Maya were all competing against girls up to 4 years older.
In the throws we had a clean sweep of bith the Shot and Javelin. Chioma Obe-Adewole won the A shot (8.33m), while sister Iyanni won the B string with a PB (6.94m). Nana Djon won the A Javelin with a PB (22.18m), with Iyanni winning the B string (10.37m). Chioma was also 2nd in the A Discus (18.51m) with Iyanni 3rd in the B string (11.41m).
SLH also had the distinction of having 13 non-scorers in the 100m, 5 in the 800m, and 9 in the Long Jump, to the disbelief of the organisers. Well done girls.
100m - Vanessa La Fon (13.6), Kalise Powell (14.4), Reshae McPherson (14.6), Maya Bruney (14.8), Jazz Crawford (14.8), Nicholette Pollard-Odle (15.3), Alex Roberts (15.7), Tessa Billups (15.9), Amy Billups (16.2), Kalema Powell (16.2), Kyra Akinnibi (16.4), Tianne Gibson-Bartlett (16.6), Emma Doyle (17.5).
800m - Kalise Powell (2:52.2), Alex Roberts (3:05.7), Nicholette Pollard-Odle (3:21.7), Kyra Akinnibi (3:24.0), Emma Doyle (3:24.1).
Long Jump - Maria Kavanagh (3.48m), Kalise Powell (3.44m), Ruth Myburgh (3.41m), Nichollete Pollard-Odle (3.21m), Reshae McPherson (2.98m), Alex Roberts (2.82m), Kalema Powell (2.48m), Emma Doyle (2.39m).
A long day, but victory made the journey home all the sweeter.
