Despite the snow and difficult travelling conditions, South London Harriers were able to field a full team of 12 runners this year for this top quality event hosted by Aldershot, Farnham & District. The relays are run in alternating long and short legs. The long leg being 8.4k and the short 4.2k.
Francis Staunton led off with the long leg which he completed in 31.48. Michael McManus took over to run the short in a speedy 14.31. Pawel Bal ran to form with his 29.28 and Ian Kitching’s 15.28 maintained a good pace. David Baker was next on the long leg with 30.22 and Mark Burtwell took over on the short, timing 16.03. Paul Mitchell did 31.34 and Barry Attwell 15.26, Nick Lee 33.06 and Peter Emery 17.06 and then Alex Halpin, 33.24 and Colin Young on the last short leg ran 16.18, bringing the team home in 30th spot.

The women’s event is over 6 short stages and SLH’s women ran as follows to finish in 18th place. Caroline Walker, 17.04, Michelle Jenkins, 16.59, Trudy Kuhn, 20.51, Beckie Woodland, 16.13, Jo Farrar, 22.08 and Zoe Simek, 19.54.

South London Harriers have over 20 entrants in the London Marathon next Sunday and are hoping for some great performances.
