March 16th, 2008: Kingston Poly Open

Posted by Ian Field at 6:57 am

Three determined young atheletes made the trip to Kingston in appalling weather to start off the track season for 2008.

The conditions were appalling, with driving wind and rain most of the day. Here are the SLH results.

Tyrie Obuks (U15) was 1st in the Jong Jump with 3.99m, and 2nd in the 100m in 14.23s. Well done.

Maya Bruney (U11) ran very well, almost matching her PB, despite a strong wind against in the 100m for 2nd place in 15.68s.

Maria Kavanagh (U13) was 2nd in the 800m in 2:47.06. again, a performance adversely affected by the conditions.

Maya certainly looks one to watch for the future. She was inspired by meeting, and speaking to, British Olympic Long Jumper Jade Johnson on the track at Crystal Palace last week. Jade very kindly took time out to speak with a few of our athletes, and signed some autographs. As the track season is not far off, a few stars have been spotted there, so autograph hunters and 2012 prospects be alert !
