Posted by Brian and Viv at 1:00 amSouth London Harriers had a range of age groups competing in last Saturday’s English National Cross Country Championships held at Alton Towers, Staffordshire.
SLH had a full team of four in the Under 13 Girls’ race where Maria Kavanagh was 112th, Ruth Myburgh 182nd, and twins Tessa and Amy Billup 228th and 269th. This team finished a worthy 27th place.
Ben Forman was 256th in the Under 13 Boys; Helen Wilson 127th in the Under 15 Girls and Daniel Sellman’s 43rd place in the Under 17 Boys was SLH’s highest placed individual of the day.
Only two of the club’s ladies competed in the highly competitive Senior Women’s race. Michelle Jenkins’s current strong form brought her home in 97th place and Pam Iannela was 342nd.
The Senior Men’s race attracted eleven SLH runners. The first finisher of these was Tom Jenkins in 142nd followed by Andy Collins, 416th; Dave Baker, 464th; Paul Mitchell, 499th; Mark Burtwell, 584th; Simon Rosser, 675th; Alex Halpin, 693rd; Colin Young, 819th; Clive Edgington, 842nd; Peter Emery, 873rd and Antonio Martins, 1204th. In the ‘6-to-score’ team event SLH were 45th, and in the ‘9-to-score’ ranking they were 18th.
