Posted by Brian and Viv at 9:04 pmSouth London Harriers’ women dominated the competition on Saturday, showing their great strength in depth at the South of Thames Championship over seven and a half miles at Nork Park. The A team of Ruth Hutton, Pippa Major, Beckie Woodland, Viv Mitchell, Jo Quantrill and Liz Davey came away the victors, with the B team of Kate Hewett, Pam Ianella, Jo Lingwood, Lorraine Hewett, Linda Gale and Jo Farrer taking bronze.
The men’s six to score team finished seventh with David Baker, David Ogden, Paul Mitchell, Mark Burtwell, Colin Young and Ken Lee comprising the scoring team.
In Sunday’s Holly Run at Reigate Priory Park, the SLH women featured strongly again with Georgie Bruinvels (under 20) winning the event overall and Loulou Rowlands finishing second to win the under 17’s. Gemma Marrs was the first senior woman in sixth place overall.
The under 17 boys proved they can turn it on too, with Matt Grant second, Alex Rice fifth and Jack Bourne ninth to take first team.
In the under 13/15 girls’ race, Maria Kavanagh finished 19th, Francesca Parris 40th and Zoe Collins 53rd. Alex Chung was 31st in the under 11 boys and Michael McManus was 16th in the senior men’s category.
