Posted by Brian and Viv at 3:09 pmSouth London Harriers’ Chris Phelan took a week off from organising the Banstead Woods Time Trials to travel to New York to compete in the Marathon. Chris, as always, gave of his best to finish in 2hrs 49mins and in sixteenth place in the over 45 age group (289th place overall).
Bernie Ingrams, Phil Scarles, Darrell High and Beckie Woodland added mountains into their marathons by taking part in the Original Mountain Marathon in Southern Scotland. Competing in different categories over 2 days, they all finished their events, with Darrell High and partner finishing second in theirs.
SLH sent 7 teams to Reigate Priory to compete in the relays last weekend. The women’s A team winning their event with Pippa Major, Ruth Hutton and Georgie Bruinvels taking the honours in a combined time of 48 mins 21 secs. Georgie’s time of 14.59 being the fastest of the day. The women’s B team of Sophie Cowper, Michelle Jenkins and Loulou Rowlands took fifth place in 49.52. The C and D teams finishing eleventh and twenty-second of the thirty four teams taking part.
The men’s A team of Matt Grant, Dominic Steiert, Alex Rice, Michael McManus, Andy Evans and Tom Jenkins were sixth with the B team placing eighth and the C team 24th.
