Posted by Brian and Viv at 1:16 pmSouth London Harriers Under 17 boys’ team of Matthew Grant, Alex Rice and Dominic Steiert put on an impressive performance to finish 19th of the 60 teams competing in the National Road Relays at Sutton Park last weekend.
Moving on a week and up to Senior and International level, SLH’s Natalie Harvey battled her way round the 10 miles of the Great South Run this week to finish in ninth spot in 57mins 23secs among some of the biggest names in distance running, the race winner being Rose Cheruiyot of Kenya (53.44).
Daniel Gillett (36.08), Robin Holmes (37.58), Ruth Hutton, lady vet 40 (40.44), Ken Lee, male vet 60 (41.47), Jane Luxton, lady vet 50 (49.48) and Susan Taylor, lady vet 45 (52.47) all competed in the more local Oxshott 10k.
Doubling up on the distance and competing in the Barnes Green Half Marathon were: Ian Kitching (78.17), 9th overall and 1st male vet 55, Alex Halpin (86.12), Pippa Major, lady vet 40 (90.33), Colin Moyer (91.03), Neil Maury (94.02), Clare Settle (95.56) and Adam Jarvis (103.02).
Only the full marathon distance was enough for David Byrne and Paul Mitchell who finished 3rd and 18th respectively in the scenic Beachy Head Marathon in 3hrs 12mins and 3hrs 28mins while Simon Rosser travelled to Venice for his distance workout finishing in 3hrs 20mins. Dublin was the venue for a 26.2 mile run for Christine Costiff, finishing 2nd w45 in 3hrs 13mins, Pat O’Brien, 3hrs 35mins, Nigel Costiff, 4hrs 04mins and Lorraine Hewett, 4hrs 38mins.
South London Harriers will be staging their demanding 10 mile cross country event dedicated to one of their greatest runners, the late Gordon Pirie, on Saturday, 1st December at 2.00pm. This is an open event and pre-entries are invited. Details from www.southlondonharriers.org or 0208 668 3916.
