October 14th, 2007: Pawel Bal takes silver at Beckley 10km, Rye

SLH sent 3 runners to this 200 runner race 5 miles from Rye, on the South Coast on Sunday October 14.
Pawel Bal was leading the race in a pack of 3 runners until 2 runners broke clear 1km from home. Pawel remained at the head of affairs until the final 500 metres, and possibly his exertions in the Surrey Cross country cost him first place.
Pawel was one of the leading SLH runner in the Surrey Cross Country at Wimbledon Common on the Saturday, and used a lot of his energy in overtaking a number of runners close to the finish line.
Pawel was beaten by 6s, but picked up several prizes for his fine effort on this hilly course. As well as his trophy, and 2 hours of free personal training, Pawel led home the 3 SLH runners to First Place in the Mens’ Team Result.
The other runners were Paul Weir in 42nd, and Matt Birchley in 21st. This was a most unexpected victory, and all the more enjoyable for that. Next year, the plan is to return and for Pawel to go one position better.
