Posted by Brian and Viv at 12:23 pmSLH had eight teams competing across the categories at Aldershot last weekend in the South of England Relays, with the men’s vets over 50’s team being the most successful. Ian Kitching, Glenn Quarton, Ray Marriott and Barry Attwell came home clutching gold medals after a brilliant performance, with Ray Marriott’s time of 20m 23s being the second fastest for this age group.
The vets 40 ‘A’ Team came close to winning medals but Andy Collins, Mike Airey, Jason Simpson and Chris Phelan just missed out with fourth place, despite Jason running the fastest leg of 18m 53s. The ‘B’ Team of David Baker, Andy Tyndall, Julian Gevers and Peter Emery were fourteenth.
Dave Newlands, Graham Bradbury, Terry Ward and Ken Lee were the men vet 60s team, finishing fifth in their age group.
The over 40 ladies team of Pippa Major, Lisa Thompson, Viv Mitchell and Ruth Hutton finished in silver medal position, just missing out to Reading Road Runners.
The senior women’s ‘A’ team of Caroline Walker, Alison Collins, Beckie Woodland and Pippa Major (2nd run) finished 23rd and the ‘B’ team of Sophie Cowper, Marketa Martins, Pam Iannella and Jo Lingwood were 37th.
The senior men’s team of Alex Halpin, Mark Farmer, Colin Young, Matt Chapman, Simon Rosser and Antonio Martins 64th.
Tomorrow, Saturday 6th October, SLH will be staging their annual five mile club championship for the historic “Gibb Cup”. The challenging course over Farthing Downs is also open to non-club members and further information is available at southlondonharriers.org.
