In their final Southern Women’s League Track and Field match of the season at Kings Lynn, SLH achieved promotion to Division One! Read more on this report below:
SLH’s strongest team of the season comfortably won the match with an outstanding performance, especially by the Seniors, who completed a clean sweep of the flat track events from 100 metres to 3000 metres.

The junior girls, as ever, gave a gritty performance. SLH’s leading junior sprinter Shanice Harrison was 2nd in both the 100m and 200m A race with Sophie Small 3rd in the B. Under 13, Megan Waller was 4th in the B 200m. Harriet Field ran close to her best for 2nd in the A 1500m with Maria Kavanagh winning the B race. Hannah Field was 3rd in the A 800m. Sophie Small also ran in the A race of the 75m hurdles, finishing 2nd with Megan 4th in the B race with a very good time despite the strong wind. Sophie then set a PB in the A long jump to finish 2nd with Hannah 2nd in the B. Hannah was also 4th in the A High Jump with a new PB. Georgina West set 2 new PBs in winning the A shot putt and the A discus; she was also 3rd in the javelin and was reliably backed by Lily Holder in the B strings.  Hannah Field, Sophie Small, Harriett Field and Shanice Harrison then competed again to finish a close third in the 4 x 100m relay.

In the seniors event, a  strong team along with new recruit Georgie Bruinvels, had their best match of the season. Natalie Bartley and Estelle D’ja destroyed the opposition, winning the A and B strings of the 100m and 200m. Georgie started her SLH career in brilliant fashion, winning the A 800m, the A 1500m and the A 3000m! Michelle Jenkins also ran superbly to win the B 400m, the B 800m and the B 1500m in times which would also have won the A races. Jessica Case won the A 400m and was 2nd in the A 400m hurdles and also 3rd in the A 100m hurdles race. Alecia Alli-Ugbaja won the B 100m hurdles and Sian Mitchell controlled the 300m hurdles sprinting away in the home straight. Alecia was also 2nd in the B high jump.
Kara Miller was unbeatable, winning the A long jump, A triple jump and the A high jump. Olamide Williams won the B triple jump and was 3rd in the B long jump.

In the throws, Team Captain Jill Lula, won the B shot, the B discus and was 3rd in the B javelin and also 4th in the A hammer with Bonita Francis winning the A shot, 2nd in the A discus, 3rd in the A javelin and 3rd in the B hammer.

The highlight of the day was the 4 x 100m relay in which Natalie Bartley, Sian Mitchell, Estelle D’ja and Alecia Alli-Ugbaja stormed through to win with Sian, Michelle Jenkins, Georgie Bruinvels and Jessica Case also winning their 4 x 400m race comfortably.

Nearer to home, the cross country women were competing at Sparrows Den in the Blackheath relays with the A team of Ruth Hutton, Pippa Major, Viv Mitchell and Sophie Cowper finishing 2nd, just 11 seconds behind winners Tonbridge.
