Some dates for your diary for all Young Athletes interested in Indoor Sportshall Athletics this winter.

The Sportshall Athletics season starts in October. For those that don’t know, they are a series of 3 team events to be held at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre against all the other Athletics Clubs in Surrey. SLH will be sending several teams in the U15 and U13 age groups, for both Boys and Girls. We were very successful last year, and I’m sure we can be again this year. This is also a great opportunity for the younger athletes to make their first competitive appearance for the club as we will be entering more than one team in each age group. The dates are all Sundays and are as follows :

28th October,  2nd December, 13th January.

There is also a big event for Under 11’s (Primary School only) held at Crystal Palace. This will be a great opportunity for athletes in this age group to experience competition as part of a team. We will send large Boys and Girls teams to this. The date is :-

19th January (Saturday)

Make sure you mark these dates in your diaries, as they are unmissable events. Just ask anyone who competed last year, or indeed their parents and supporters !!  Anne Roden will again be managing the Boys teams, and Ian Field the Girls teams. Selection has already started, so make sure you are training hard each week so you can becomre part of the team !

Should athletes perform well and catch the eye of the Surrey Selectors, they can be chosen to represent the County in the Regional Final against the other S.E. Counties. SLH had several in the teams last year, and obviously we want to send more again this year. The Regional Final is at the same venue on Sunday 17th February.

Should any of the Surrey teams win their Regional Final, then the whole team qualifies for the National Final. SLH sent 5 athletes to this last year, and that would certainly be good to repeat. The National Final is held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on Sunday 16th March.
