Another good all round performance by SLH’s senior women and junior girls secured 2nd place in the Women’s Southern League Track and Field match at Cheltenham last weekend.
In the under 15 girls’ competition Shanice Harrison secured a 2nd place finish in both the 100m (14.1) and 200m (27.5) A String and a good time of 13.9 gave Janet Foskett a win in the B race. Janet then went on to finish 2nd in the B 75m hurdles in 15.9 with under 13 athlete Jahisha Thomas winning the A race in 13.1. Hannah Field equalled her PB of 2.36.1 to finish 3rd in the 800m.  Ruth Myburgh (U13) ran well on a hot day for the middle distance runners to be 2nd in the B 800m in 2.51.8. Amy Mitchell looked good in the 1500m with a 2nd place finish in 5.34.9 with Maria Kavanagh (U13) winning the B race in 5.44.8.

Good performances in the field culminated in Georgina West and Lily Holder winning both A and B strings in the Shot and Discus and the versatile Amy Mitchell was 2nd in the A Javelin with Georgina second in the B. Jahisha Thomas won the A Long Jump with a new PB of 4.45m with Hannah Field 2nd in the B in 3.92m, just outside her PB. Jahisha’s performances this season have lifted her to No. 1 in Surrey at Long Jump, 70m Hurdles and 75m and 3rd in the High Jump; an outstanding achievement.

In the Senior Women’s match Jessica Case, Alison Collins, Caroline Walker and Viv Mitchell all performed above the call of duty and between them covered all the sprints and middle distances and were ¾ of the relay! Jessica was 2nd in the A 400m (74.8) and 3rd in the A 100m Hurdles (18.3). Alecia Alli-Ugbaja won the 100m Hurdles B race with a PB of 18.2, also competing in the B Triple Jump and A Long Jump, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively.

Captain Jill Lula won the A Hammer with a huge throw of 36.01. Jill also won the B Discus with 23.74m. Bonita Francis won the A Discus (24.94m) and was 2nd in both the A Shot (8.78m) and the A Javelin (28.96m). Hayley Hazelby was 2nd in the B Javelin (18.76) and the B Shot (7.76m). Beth Wilkins competed in the A Triple Jump (8.29m) and B Long Jump (3.95m).
Hopefully with a full-strength team out for the last match on 1st September, SLH has a good chance of promotion next season.

ROAD RUNNING
SLH women took third team place in the Belgrave 5km Road Race on Sunday with Pippa Major fourth woman finisher in 19.13; Lisa Thompson 14th in 20.26 and Trudy Kuhn 25th in 22.25. In the men’s race, Andy Evans was 40th in 18.11, Paul Mitchell 47th in 18.18 and Jake Clausen 117th in 24.59.

In last week’s report on the men’s Southern Track and Field it was reported that  Bryce Christy competed in the 5000m, this in fact was Bryce England and it was Shane Christy who took part in the 400m. In the Banstead Woods Time Trial last week it was Andy Evans who finished second in 18.20 rather than Andy Collins as reported.
