Another good all round performance by both senior women and junior girls secured 2nd place in this (distant) match. Thanks to Amy Mitchell for the DVD entertainment on the long coach journey. We are still in a promotion position, and a good turnout for the last match would be great.

U15 Girls

Our top sprinter, Shanice Harrison, despite feeling unwell, managed to finish 2nd in both the 100m (14.1) and 200m (27.5) A strings, with Janet Foskett winning the B 100m in a very good time (13.9). Janet then finished 2nd in the B 75mH (15.9) with Jahisha Thomas (U13) winning the A (13.1). Hannah Field was 3rd in the 800m A equalling her PB (2:36.1). Ruth Myburgh (U13) ran well on a hot day for the middle distance runners to be 2nd in the B 800m (2:51.8). Amy Mitchell looked good in the 1500m with 2nd place (5:34.9) with Maria Kavanagh (U13) winning the B (5:44.8). In the relay, Hannah, Jahisha, Megan Waller and Maria finished 4th. By this time, unfortunately, Shanice was unwell and Janet had injured her leg in the 200m. Good performances in the field culminated in Georgina West and Lily Holder winning both A and B string in the Shot (8.70m and 6.45m) and Discus (21.35m and 15.20m). The versatile Amy was 2nd in the A Javelin (14.30m) with Georgina 2nd in the B (11.39m). Jahisha won the A Long Jump with a new PB (4.45m) with Hannah 2nd in the B (3.92m) just a few cms short of her PB. It is worth noting that Jahisha’s performances this season have lifted her to No.1 in Surrey at Long Jump, 70mH and 75m, and is also 3rd for High Jump, and outstanding achievement.

Seniors

We must salute vice-captain Jessica Case, Alison Collins, Caroline Walker and Viv Mitchell who all performed above the call of duty and who between them covered all the sprints, middle distance and were 3/4 of the relay !! Jessica was 2nd in the A 400mH (74.8) and 3rd in the A 100mH (18.3). Alecia Alli-Ugbaja won the 100mH B with a PB (18.2). Captain Jill Lula won the A Hammer with a huge throw (36.01m) while still angry over the U15 girls High Jump debacle. Jill also won the B Discus (23.74m). Bonita Francis won the A Discus (24.94m) and was 2nd in both the A Shot (8.78m) and the A Javelin (28.96m). Hayley Hazelby was 2nd in the B Javelin (18.76m) and the B Shot (7.76m). Beth Wilkins was 4th in the A Triple Jump (8.29m) and 3rd in the B Long Jump (3.95m), while Alecia was 4th in the B Triple Jump (8.63m) and 3rd in the A Long jump (4.28m).

Overall 2nd place was a good effort considering the number of people missing with injuries etc. Hopefully we can get a full-strength team out for the last match on Sep 1st as we are in with a very good chance of promotion. Well done.

Phil Hartnett.
