South London Harriers’ Jason Simpson’s run of winning form continues, this time with a victory in a high quality field in the Dysart Dash 10k Road Race hosted by Ranelagh Harriers at Petersham last Sunday. Jason completed the distance in a superb 32.16 and as a recently turned 40 veteran runner Jason also picked up the prize for first veteran.  Next finishers for SLH were 12th placed Chris Phelan (another v40) in 35.12 and Pavel Bal 13th in 35.24. These three made up the SLH team who finished in 3rd place with 26 points.

On the Saturday, South London Harriers’ men’s track and field team travelled to Rochester for their Southern League Match 3 where they competed with Ealing, Tonbridge, Maidstone and Medway (host club), and a small team from Hastings.
SLH’s team stepped up a gear in the throws, and remained competitive in the jumps, but it was the track running where they lost vital points. Three of the team pulled out on the day, and so their colleagues had to cover the events as best they could.
They scored maximum points in the throws with Iwan Borszcz winning the hammer (40.97m), shot-put (10.19m) and discus (28.62m) events and Darren Brown did the same for the long and high jumps.
Winning the ‘B’ 1500 metres in 4:07.8 provided 16 year old Matthew Grant with the qualifying time necessary to gain entry for the English Schools Championships.

With Hastings competing in just two scoring events (200m ‘A’ and 400m ‘A’), it was always a three horse race, and the final result Maidstone 1st with146.5 points, Ealing 2nd with 141.5, and 3rd SLH with 130.

At 9.00 that Saturday morning the second of the new 5k Time Trial free of charge races was held at Banstead Woods. South London Harriers  featured strongly in both of these races with Andy Evans 7th, Andy Davis 9th and John Quaintance 11th in the inaugural race, and Ian Kitching 2nd and new recruit Robin Holmes 4th in the second race.
