June 2nd, 2007: Southern Women’s League, Match 3
Posted by Ian Field at 12:09 pmDue to late withdrawals in the Seniors, we struggled in this match and could only manage 3rd place despite strong performances by the U15 Girls. ong trip to Bury St Edmunds does however keep us in with a shout of gaining promotion as we are now in 4th place, with 5 to go up.
U15 Girls
Shanice Harrison continued her winning ways in the A 100m (13.3) and A 200m (27.4). Sophie Small was 2nd in the B 100m (13.8) and Megan Waller (U13) 4th in the B 200m (31.2). Sophie then won the B 75H (13.1) with Jahisha Thomas (U13) 3rd in the A race (13.0) just 0.1 outside her PB. Hannah Field and Ruth Myburgh (U13) both finished 3rd in their 800m races, Hannah with a new PB (2:36.1) and Ruth in the B (2:44.8). Amy Mitchell was 3rd in the A 1500m (5:42.6) with newcomer Zoe Collins having a good run coming 2nd in the B race (6:16.7). Amy and Jahisha, with a PB, both cleared the same height to finish 2nd in both strings of the High Jump (1.35m). Jahisha was then 3rd in the A Long Jump with another PB (4.44m) with Sophie Small winning the B (4.16m). Lily Holder won the B Javelin (8.91m) and was 3rd in the B Shot (6.72m). Hannah set a new PB in the A Shot for 3rd (6.99m). Lily also threw well in the Discus A (13.91m) with Hannah 3rd in the B (12.00m). The 4×100 relay team actually ran faster than the Seniors to finish 2nd, with Shanice, Janet Foskett, Sophie and Jahisha.
Seniors
With too many missing Seniors, we struggled for points except in the sprints. Estelle D’ja, just back from injury, was 2nd in the A 100m (13.2) and the A 200m (27.8), with Alecia Alli-Ugbaja 2nd in the B 100m (13.9) and Team Captain Jessica Case 2nd in the B 200m (29.1). Gemma Marrs was 2nd in a classy A 800m (2:18.8) and was 4ht in the A 400m (64.0). Alison Collins was 3rd in the B 400m (66.3). Viv Mitchell ran a good race in very hot conditions to finish 2nd in the A 3000m (11:59.3), and was 4th in the A 1500m (5:56.4). Some excellent hurdling was on view as Alecia won the B 100H in a new PB (17.7) with Jessica 3rd in the A race (17.6). Jessica was 2nd in the A 400H (74.0). In the field, Seraphina Koutoukoli won the B Long Jump (4.11m) with Alecia leaping a seasons best for 2nd in the A string (4.51m). Another athelete retuning from injury, Hayley Hazelby, was 3rd in the A Shot (8.50m) 3rd in the B Triple Jump (7.76m) and 3rd in the A Javelin (19.07m). Hayley competed in the A Hammer (11.02m) along with Christine Hartnett, who was returning to the team after a break of …… years. Chris threw in the Hammer (5.56m), Discus (10.50m) and Shot (4.45m) in the absence of her daughter Jill. Well done Chris. The 4×100m relay team were 2nd with estelle, Alecia, Alison and Jessica, and the 4×400m were 3rd with Gemma replacing Alecia from the above team.
Hopefully the Seniors will be up to strength for the next couple of matches, to carry on the push for promotion.
