May 23rd, 2007: Rosenheim Fixture 2, Croydon Arena

Read Paul Mitchell’s report on the second Rosenheim fixture below:

Croydon Arena was a pleasant contrast to the previous Rosenheim match, as SLH turned up in force on the track.  The match got off to a tardy start, when a guest hurdler arrived requiring a fifth lane of hurdles to be set up.  Despite the presence of a novice hurdler from Herne Hill in the lane next to me, I still managed to come last, but with only 4 teams in the first race, that was still 3 points in the bag.  Tom Jenkins powered home in the 800m for maximum points, with Pawel, Michelle and Sinead in the non-score race.  Billy and Prosper switched score and non-score roles in the 100 and 200m sprints.  I stood in for want of a better athlete in the 400m flat, and Barry achieved his target of a sub-4:35 in the 1500m.

Despite my pleas, Pawel remained non-scorer in the 3,000m, but was of course at least half a lap ahead of me at the bell.  Our weakness was in the field - unfortunately Darren had been held up by the rail chaos, so missed the high jump (which he would normally have won on his opening jump), but managed first in the long.  No throwers, so zero in the hammer and javelin, and the sprinters had gone home by the start of the delayed relay.  But a better turnout, and some solid results.

I didn’t get the entire results, but an estimate is:  HHH 52 points, Serpentine 48, Croydon 45, Striders 41, SLH 31 and Herc. Wimbledon 15.
