May 18th, 2007: Prestwood 10k, Chilterns

Read a report submitted to the club from Matt Birchley about Pawel Bal’s exploit’s at this tough 10k in the Chilterns, finishing 3rd in a time of 36.13 below:

Pawel, and I did a race last Sunday, May 20, which merits some mention
on the SLH website. Pawel was involved in a hugely exciting finish, so I am told.

Pawel finished in 3rd place, dead heating with another guy, who had beaten Pawel by over a minute in the recent Sutton 10km race at Beddington Park.

The other guy, and Pawel came back in to the grounds of the sports club
locked together at the 9km mark. Pawel trailed the other guy all the way.

As they approached the 9.5km point, Pawel started to sprint. The other guy, who is an 800 metre runner with a pb 7 seconds quicker than Pawel, was confident that he had Pawel’s measure.

However, he was wrong.

Pawel was all out, and the other guy tried to barge Pawel out of the way close to the line, but Pawel flashed by on the line a nose ahead !

The reward - A nice trophy which he will keep in perpetuity ! I think that this victory was down to the young lads training with Pawel at SLH the Thursday before, where Pawel had some good sprint training.

Best Regards

Matt Birchley
