Posted by Brian and Viv at 8:19 pmDespite last Sunday’s wet conditions, a very much on form Jason Simpson of South London Harriers clocked a superb 68.57 to win the Ranelagh Half Marathon.Jason finished almost 3 minutes clear of the second placed finisher Padraic Buckley of Belgrave Harriers with a time of 71.50. Jason was supported by other superb runs from S.L.H. members. Chris Phelan was 13th in 76.19, Mark Farmer was 17th in 77.26 and Ian Kitching was 33rd in 80.44.
Also on Sunday, Pippa Major was second woman in the Coombe Hill 5 mile in a time of 31.09. The event was hosted by Striders of Croydon and run over a tough course on Addington Hills, and not too far away, Jo Quantrill finished 3rd in the 5km Race for Life women’s event held at Lloyd Park.
For many years South London Harriers have set their sights high aiming for a win in the National Masters Road Relay Championships. The event was held last Saturday at its traditional venue Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield.
The club’s v50 team that comprised Paul Williams (17.50), Ian Kitching (17.40), Nigel Bush (18.15), Barry Attwell (16.34), John Quaintance (17.50) and Ken Lee (19.38) finished a worthy 15th of the 30 complete teams competing.
Dave Newland (19.37) ran SLH’s first leg in the v60s race, Dave Parkinson ran 2nd leg in 20.49 and Bob Gevers (19.19) brought the team home in 12th place of the 23 running.
