South London Harriers’ Triathlon Club has just achieved its first Individual national medal in the form of silver awarded to Andy Collins in the National Duathlon Champs. This even was held at Carsington Water near Ashbourne Derbyshire last week. The event consisted of a 12km run, 40km bike ride and then another 4km run.

Andy’s strength over the first hilly and tough 12km run gave him a good lead over some of the better cyclists who were then unable to catch him on the bike leg.

Not content with this achievement, Andy then went on to be S.L.H.’s first finisher in Sunday’s Sutton 10km  where the S.L.H. men’s team took 2nd, only 6 points behind Stragglers with Mike Airey finishing a brave 16th after a crashing fall only a couple of hundred metres into the race.

Pawel Bal was 13th in 35.09, David Baker 14th in 35.22, Mike Airey 16th in 35.40, Mark Burtwell 45th in 38.20. An in-form  Pippa Major won the women’s race 39.10 in 58th place overall.

Alex Halpin was 60th in 39.19, Ken Lee 104th in 41.46, Martin McCarthy 105th in 41.55, Neil Maury 109th in 42.05, Pat O’Brien 155th in 44.50, Richard Oliver 235th in 49.34 and Aidan McManus 378th in 63.44. 396 finished the race.

SLH Ladies competed in their first match of the season in the Southern
Women’s League at Eastbourne. They had a very successful day, with some great achievements from both the Senior and Junior teams, only missing out on a win by 5 points.

A few of the SLH senior results from today are as follows: 100 metres, Natalie Bartley 12.6; 400m, Jessica Chase 69.6; 800m, Alison Collins 2.40; 1500m, Viv Mitchell; 3000m, Pippa Major 11.13; 100m hurdles, Jessica Case 18.1; 400m hurdles, Jessica Case 76.5; S.L.H. won the 4 x 100m relay and were 2nd in the 4 x 400m.

In the mid-week Beckenham Relays over 2.6 miles, S.L.H. Tri Club again
featured with their team finishing 2nd. The prolific Andy Collins ran 14.08, Alex Halpin, 15.58 and Jim Burdett 13.58.

The Over 50 veteran’s team were fifth with Barry Attwell finishing in 14.16, Nigel Bush, 15.58 and Clive Edgington 16.19. Other S.L.H. competitors took part in a mixed team with Ken Lee running 16.51 and Trudy Kuhn 19.19. Ray Chapman did 16.10.
